We slept in pretty late. Basically until checkout time at the motel.
We went to breakfast at a place that had a buffet. It was really good. I ate wayy too much. They had homemade pies for desert.
Since it was Sunday, and tomorrow is Labor Day, the post office is closed so we couldn't have our box shipped from home. Grand Lake had a decent sized grocery store so we were able to buy all our food for the next section.
After a few hours of shopping and organizing food, we headed back to the BBQ place to eat before we hit the trail.
We ordered a jumbo nacho plate and a few drinks. We had our backpacks with us and the young waitress was excited to talk to us about the CDT. She said she really wanted to do it some day.
When it came time to get our check, our waitress said she comped our meal!! We couldn't believe it. We left her a big tip.
We got on trail and hiked about 5-6 miles. We are camped on the Colorado river. We are also camped in the national park, so we are camping illegally without a permit. But I'm pretty sure the area we are in hasn't been patrolled by rangers in a long time. It isn't a highly travelled area of the park.
