Monday, August 24 - Friday, August 28

Sorry for the bulk post, but nothing super exciting has happened this week and I was slacking on writing posts at night.

We finished the hike through the Basin and into Rawlins. Our little friend, Mavis the dog, hiked a total of 70 miles with us in 3 day. She was a trooper. You could tell that by the time we got to Rawlins, she was done. We also figured out how she got lost, whenever a jackrabbit ran across the road, Mavis would chase it like she was possessed. Like a switch was flipped and nothing else mattered except getting that bunny. She ran at least a mile from us one time chasing one. But was able to get back to us.

When we got to Rawlins, we called the animal shelter in town and they came to pick her up. We were all very sad to let her go, but we knew the shelter would find her owner. We all grew very attached to her.

We took a zero in Rawlins. After this long stretch of no big towns it was nice to finally be in one.

Heather and I are meeting our parents in Breckenridge in a few weeks. So we left Rawlins a little earlier than Andy and Leah so we can make the timeline. We will probably see them again in Breckenridge.

We made it into Encampment, WY. Our last Wyoming town before Colorado. The trail is now out of the Basin and back I to the mountains. It is nice to be in trees again!

  1. Cool trail dog! There's one other reason to overpack food - sharing with new friends!
It would be nice to know if the owner ends up finding their dog.
