Wednesday, September 9

We woke up to a good amount of wind outside. We had set up our tent in a nice sheltered spot, so the wind wasn't blowing on our tent too bad. But the surrounding trees were moving like crazy.

We had a big climb to start the day that went back up to 13000ft. The wind was howling most of the way up. When we got to the summit we hid in one of the small rock walls that people have made to block the wind.

The trail descended the mountain to a road. By the time we got there the wind had died down and the temperature warmed up.

From there, we again had another 2000ft climb. These last few days have been big climb, after big climb, and very tiring.

The weather today was perfect. There wasn't a cloud in the sky for most of the day. We had some of the best views of the entire trip. Colorado is just amazing.

We had one final big 2000+ft climb near the end of the day. We followed a narrow ridge for part of it and the switchbacks were cut into the very steep hillside. It was cool.

Our milage had decreased in the last few days too. In the week before Grand Lake, Heather and I could easily average 30 miles a day. Today we did 22 miles, yesterday was 20, and the day before was 25 miles. The terrain has certainly changed.
