Monday, September 7

It rained...like all day.

We woke up and it was clear, but about an hour into the day it started raining.

We followed lakes for a long time and occasionally had views of them.

Around lunch it cleared up with blue skies for about 25 minutes. We saw our first fox of the trip. Then went back to raining.

At around 2:30 pm we came up to a volunteer ranger station cabin at one of the trailheads. It was pouring rain and the rangers allowed us to come inside and warm up by the fireplace. It was perfect timing. Heather and I were freezing and the fire felt so good. We spent about an hour in there talking to the older couple working the cabin.

We set up camp at the base of a big climb around mile 22. The climb leads up to the divide and it is very exposed for about 10 miles. We decided with the rain we didn't want to camp up there.

It is supposed to be clear for the rest of the week. Which is awesome because we are climbing the 14200ft Greys Peak in a couple days.
