Thursday, July 23

It rained most of the night. Luckily when we woke up it had stopped.

Andy and I went over the maps the night before and found an alternate that would eliminate a ton of climbing. Our maps showed a similar alternate, but we found a few other trails/roads that would be even better.

As we began one section of the alternate, we were walking on an overgrown trail and the wet grass absolutely soaked our feet and legs. After a couple miles we came up to a stream crossing, our feet were so wet that we just walked right through the stream. Our feet couldn't get any more wet than they already were.

Just as our feet were drying out in the afternoon, a thunderstorm blew in and soaked our feet again.

The key to this alternate was the very last trail that would connect us back to the CDT. The only thing that made us nervous was that this trail was listed on only one map out of the 3 different maps that we have. We use Guthook's App, Ley's maps, and the Backcountry Navigator app that uses forest service topos.

Only the forest service topos had this last trail. So we were a little nervous all day if the trail even existed. If it didn't exist, we would have to do a fair bit of bushwhacking and Heather and Leah would NOT be happy campers.

Luckily for us, the trail was there and we were back on the CDT. The alternate saved us a few thousand feet of climbing and a couple miles.

2 north bounders came by and told us they had met Crosby. We haven't seen him in about a week. Turns out he was skipping ahead to meet his parents in Yellowstone by a certain date.
