Saturday, July 25

We made the 11 or so miles into Bannock Pass pretty quickly. Town days always bring out the fastest hiking speed. It helps when you basically have no food left in your pack too. The minimal weight on your back combined with the promise of town food makes you hike faster than ever.

We had called the owner of the Leadore Inn yesterday and let him know what time we would be at the pass. He will pick you up at the pass if you're planning on staying at the Inn. We gave him the window of 10-11am and we reached the pass at 10:45. Sure enough he was there waiting for us.

There were a few other hikers at the Inn but they wanted to stay an extra day. The Inn owner, Sam, said he would take us to the other motel in town. By the way, Leadore has a population of about 70. Sam's Leadore Inn only has 4 rooms. The motel he took us to was much bigger...7 rooms. Those are the only 2 places to stay in Leadore.

The town isn't much. There is a restaurant and a gas station food mart. We went to get lunch at the restaurant and there was one lady working there. At the same time the group of 6 hikers who were staying at the Inn walked in. The lady did not look happy. On the menus it said "Good food takes time, please be patient." Not a good sign...

About 8 minutes after sitting down she slammed water cups down on the table and walked away. A group of 5 walked in and sat down. The lady immediately asked them what they wanted to drink and loudly told them that they would get their food first...

Andy, Leah, Heather and I got up and left.

We went to the gas station. They served pizza and burgers. We ordered a ton of food, bough some beer, and went back to the motel to sit on the porch and eat.

The lady at the restaurant lost out on a pretty big check based on how hungry we were....
