Friday, August 7

Our permit only had us going about 16 miles today so we slept in until about 8:30.

We hiked a pretty easy 6 miles to another big thermal pool and geyser area. The walk through it was awesome.

Theses are definitely not regular tourist area because the trail isn't a boardwalk and it goes super close to each geyser.

One geyser we passed erupted about ever minute. We watched it a few times.

Our map notes mentioned a spot in the creek where some hot water would mix with the cool creek water and is a nice place to soak. We decided to check it out and we had to do some searching but eventually found it. It was an interesting experience, the thermal pool and creek were mixing, but the surface water was boiling hot while everything underneath was cold. We sat and used our hands to do a little mixing of the water so we could get the perfect temperature. Every once in a while a particularly hot batch would flow by and sting a bit.

We finished the miles to camp. We are camped on Shoshone Lake. It is massive and beautiful.
