Saturday, August 22

Today was our first full day in the basin. It was a wide open, flat day.

It was a cold morning and the inside of our tents were covered in ice.

It is hard to describe today. It was really just the middle of nowhere. You could see miles in all directions, and there was just nothing to see. Except some cows every once and a while.

The Basin does have a few springs. We passed one today that you could see the water bubbling up through the sand at the bottom of the pool.

We walked on old dirt roads the entire day, which allowed the 4 of us to bunch up and talk. This is good because it would have been pretty boring otherwise because of the lack of scenary.

Andy and Leah have never been to Disneyland, so Heather and I spent a good 3 hours going through a mock trip to the park. We went into detail about everything from where you park your car, what you eat, what the lines are like and of course what happens on every ride. Literally every ride. It passed the time pretty quickly.

We had a bit of a dry stretch at the end of the day. When we finally hit water, it was a pretty nasty pond. It is open to cows and it is surrounded by cow poop. We even found a few bones by the water's edge. We didn't have much choice but to drink it so we double treated the water with the filter and AquaMira.
